Whatsapp Testing New ‘Imagine Me’ AI Feature

Meta is introducing another AI feature to WhatsApp with a new image creation tool. This tool allows you to place yourself in imaginative scenes for your profile picture.

As shown in this screenshot from Android Authority, Meta is working on a new feature for WhatsApp called “Imagine Me”. It allows you to use AI to create versions of your profile picture based on feedback. For starters, you post a selfie or lots of selfies. Then, you type “Imagine me…” and follow with the style of your choice. According to Android Authority:

Here's a simplified version:

A new feature called “Imagine Me” lets users turn their selfies into stickers. It uses advanced Meta AI technology. This new tool provides various options to create attractive and creative images, including animations and unique features like derivatives. Earlier this week, WhatsApp expanded the Meta AI chatbot feature to several global regions, including India. Now, it’s beginning to test an AI feature that allows users to create personalised stickers and create custom stickers from their selfies.

The latest version of WhatsApp beta for Android (v2.24.14.13) includes a new optional feature called ‘Imagine Me.’ This feature is part of the Meta AI chatbot in the messaging app, according to WABetaInfo. Meta AI uses the advanced Llama 3 (Large Language Model Meta AI 3). This model can understand complex user questions and provide clear, real-time answers.

Meta AI also comes with a text-to-image generation capability called Imagine. This uses the Emu image model. It helps you create digital art using just words. The new “Imagine Me” feature allows users to make stickers from their selfies. It also lets them enhance photos with stylish effects. Users can add fun objects and decorations, such as brushstrokes.

To use this feature, users type ‘@Meta AI imagine me’ to let the Meta AI chatbot take a selfie on WhatsApp. Someone then converts these images into stickers, which can also function as Display Pictures.

Teens often use messenger apps and spend a lot of time watching friends and family on social media. They use emoji stickers to make their conversations more fun and interesting.

This new AI photography tool helps users make custom stickers. These stickers let people show their feelings in a fun and colorful way. In a related development, WhatsApp is also testing a text feature for voice messages. Initially, it will support five languages: English, Spanish, French, Russian and Hindi.

Feature Overview:

The AI will create pictures of users in different environments like forests or outer space using reference selfies.

  • Current Status: The feature is still being developed and isn’t available yet. A leaked screenshot shows the setup process.
  • Availability: Meta AI in WhatsApp has started to roll out in places like the US and India, with more regions to follow.
  • Usage: The AI-created images can be used as stickers in WhatsApp chats.
  • Technical Aspects: Users might switch between different language model sizes, with Meta’s Llama 3-405B being more advanced than Llama 3-70B.

There could be a weekly limit on using the larger model.

Future Prospects:

  • Monetization: It’s unclear if Meta will make money from this feature, but AI-generated photos could help build a loyal user base.
  • Group Chats: The AI chatbot can be used in both one-on-one and group chats.
  • AI Chat Prompts: Meta is also testing AI chat prompts in the top search bar.

Overall, the “Imagine Me” feature shows Meta’s effort to add personalized AI features to WhatsApp, making user interaction more engaging.
