Instagram Launches Comments on Stories to Boost Engagement

Instagram Launches Comments on Stories

Instagram introduced a way to boost engagement. Now, comments will be visible to anyone viewing the instagram story.

In a preview shared by Taylor Lorraine, some Instagram users are getting warnings about a new way to comment on Stories. The report says, “Now you can tell stories about Stories. You can see what everyone who watches is saying.”

Story comments appear at the bottom of the screen. You can find them just above the task and viewer accounts. This keeps them hidden from view. This feature can start discussions about updated stories, with comments shown as highlights on the main screen for easy viewing.

Instagram is looking for new ways to connect with users as more people use private messages for conversations. Instagram’s CEO, Adam Mosseri, said that users like to post on Stories and send direct messages. They prefer these options over using the main feed. This change makes it harder to talk directly. To help, Instagram added a tool called Notes. This tool lets engage users based post chat details at the top of their inbox.

Notes has seen tremendous growth, expanding “at a wild pace,” as reported by the app. Last June, Instagram shared that teenagers create Notes ten times more than non-teens.

Instagram wants to keep this group of users. Engaging and expanding one’s social network remains crucial for the app, distinguishing it from competitors like TikTok. Consequently, Instagram has extended the Notes feature to profiles, Reels, and feed posts, incorporating a variety of new functionalities.

The introduction of comments on Stories fits this strategy. It gives users a new way to highlight discussion prompts from their posted content. This change encourages more dialogue and interaction.

Creators can choose not to provide descriptions for their content. They may do this to keep the artistic quality of their work. However, enabling Story comments can increase the visibility and high engagement of your posts.

Instagram is clearly focusing on this feature to boost activity on the platform. More content creation leads to more interactions and stronger relationships within the app.

UPDATE: Meta has officially launched the Stories comments feature. At first, only followers you follow can comment, but you can change this to let all followers comment.
